Day 09 - Visit to Badrinath on 25-Jun-2008

Badrinath Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Vishnu which is situated in the town of Badrinath in Uttarakhand, India. The temple and town form one of the four Char Dham and Chota Char Dham pilgrimage sites. The temple is also one of the 108 Divya Desams dedicated to Vishnu, who is worshipped as Badrinath—holy shrines for Vaishnavites.

Also vistited Badrinath, Bhim Pul, Ganesh Gufa, Vyas Gufa and origin of the  Saraswati River from Bhim Pul. It is believed that Saraswati  river disappeared in badrinath and appeared along with Ganga and Jamuna (Triveni Sangam) in Prayag 

Ganesh Gufa (Cave) is a naturally formed cave where Lord Ganesha penned Mahabharata in this cave as dictated by Rishi Vyas. This cave is located near the famous Vyas Cave and holds religious significance in the lives of the people.


Vyas Gufa (Caves) is believed to be the place where sage Vyas composed the Mahabharata epic with the help of Lord Ganesha. He also composed 18 Puranas, Brahma Sutras and four Vedas. Maharishi Vyas statue is installed in the caves and worshiped by the pilgrims. A distinct feature of the temple is the roof which resembles the pages from the collection of his holy scripts.

Bhim Pul (Bridge)  is a rock bridge founded by Bhima of Mahabharatha, to help Draupadi to cross the rivulet.

Saraswati river is visible as a well-hidden waterfall in the rocks which is coming out of the Himalayan Glacier. The river joins alaknanda at Keshav Prayag is called as Bhagirathi till Keshav Prayag

Vasudhara and Muchkund Gufa could not be visited as it required more than 3 km by walk for which time was not available.
